Brain Waves
In Hawaii, a lot of teens grow up seeing parents, aunties, uncles and elders use weed casually to relax, socialize or unwind, so it doesn’t really feel dangerous, it just feels normal. Our strategy was to meet teens in a way that felt culturally familiar by comparing brain development to surfing. Just like bad conditions can throw a surfer off balance, weed can throw off a developing teen brain, affecting emotions, motivation and connection in ways teens may not realize.
